Fleeting Warmth

I composed a Poem about an encounter on a train a couple of weeks ago i felt compelled to produce this as a way to free those feelings and an ode to the compassion I was shown.

The train car chilled, a weary traveller I,

No seat to rest, ignored by every eye.

Then she, a warmth amidst the winter’s sting,

Made space for me, her kindness taking wing.

Across the aisle, indifference held its reign,

While shopping bags encroached, a selfish strain.

But close beside her, gentle heat I found,

A haven from the cold world all around.

Each time the doors flew open, an icy blast

Stole precious warmth, a moment fading fast.

For days I held that memory in my soul,

Her tender grace that made my spirit whole.

I thanked her as I rose to leave the train,

Wishing I’d dared to ask her, to explain

My gratitude, perhaps to share a cup,

To hold that fleeting warmth, to keep it up.
